JAKARTA: Indonesian Doubles Badminton Star Player Markis Kido died aged 36 of a heart attack, the Badminton World Federation confirmed in a social media post on Monday 14 june.
Markis Kido was one of the most talented players, I have ever seen on court, and he was one of the most entertaining players to watch too. He was one of the players who made badminton interesting.
Yes Kido no more with us it's really sad news for badminton fans he said on the telephone to an Indonesian website. The official said Markis Kido died while playing badminton in Tangerang, a city in Indonesia.
Markis Kido, a celebrated doubles player, won the doubles gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with good friend Henra Setiawan. The pair had also won the World Championship title in men's doubles in 2007 in Kuala Lumpur. Kido and Setiawan formed a formidable pair and dominated the men's doubles circuit for a long while. They went on to win the Asian Games gold in 2010.
Kido also won a gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. Markis started his professional career in 2005 and was partnered with Hendra Setiawan. His duet with Hendra has resulted in many titles including 7 SEA Games gold medals.
Markis kido also won a gold medal at the 2006 world cup in Yiyang, China beat his opponent Robert Lin Woon Fui/Fairuzizuan Tazari in straight games 21-18, 21-15.
Markis Kido played in the Premier Badminton League as recently as 2018. The Indonesia star had partnered with the likes of Jwala Gutta when he played for the Hyderabad franchise in 2016.
The Indian badminton star took to social media on Monday and expressed shock over the death of the legendary Indonesian shutter.
"Shocking. MARKIS KIDO. Can't believe it.What a legendary player!!Gone too soon!!" Jwala Gutta said while sharing a photo from her doubles match with the Indonesia player.
